In both the eurozone and EU27, the current account recorded a larger surplus in the fourth quarter of 2012 than in the same period of 2011, rising from €36.6 billion to €59.2 billion in the eurozone (2.5% of eurozone GDP) and from €24.7 billion to €34.1 billion in the EU27 (1% of EU27 GDP), according to an initial estimate published by Eurostat, the EU's statistics office, on Friday 8 March.
