On Thursday 14 February, the European Parliament rapporteur on Turkey, Ria Oomen-Ruijten (EPP, Netherlands) welcomed the announcement made by France on 12 February about lifting its veto on Chapter 22 - on regional policy - in the accession negotiations with Ankara (see EUROPE 10785). “The opening of Chapter 22 is something she asked for in her draft resolution on the 2012 Turkey progress report”, Oomen-Ruijten's assistant told EUROPE. Oomen-Ruijten “sincerely hopes that this will create the much needed momentum in the negotiations, which could also lead to the opening of other chapters like 23 and 24”, he added. (CG/transl.fl)
