05/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - Commission fills financial gap. The European Commission has announced that it has paid 27 new subsidies to researchers who found themselves short of money when attempting to transform their scientific discoveries into marketable products. The so-called “validation principle” subsidies are worth €150,000 each and will help researchers who have already been selected by the European Research Council (ERC). The grants are going to researchers from 10 European countries specialising in basic research. Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn (Research) said that this additional funding was necessary if the EU's good ideas were to be put on the European market. (JK/transl.fl)
