Brussels, 05/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and the Agadir Agreement, two structures that were formed for specific purposes - one to initiate projects in various sectors, and the other for the development of Euro-Mediterranean trade - have decided to coordinate their work in that region.
Both organisations, which are funded by the EU and by a few of the EU member states, will seek to generate synergies between themselves. Specific projects will be developed in the field of SMEs, they point out in a press release after a meeting in Barcelona on 30 January between their leaders: Fathallah Sijilmassi, UfM Secretary General, and Walid El Nozahi, President of the Agadir Technical Unit.
The Agadir Agreement (AA), signed on 25 February 2004 by four southern rim countries (Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia), aims to complete the free trade area project through the mutual “horizontal” opening of partner country markets. This would make a market of over 120 million consumers, the Amman-based organisation points out. (FB/transl.jl)
