Brussels, 16/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - The commissioner for education, culture, youth and multilingualism, Androulla Vassiliou, has welcomed the successful Franco-German-Austrian coproduction of the film “Amour”, at the Golden Globes ceremony on 13 January last, in the Beverly Hills, US. The film by Austrian director, Michael Haneke, supported by the European MEDIA programme, to the tune of €1 million, won the prize for best foreign language film. The Commissioner declared that “Michael Haneke is an extremely talented writer-director and his most recent success, 'Amour', is fully deserved”. The film had already received the Palme d'Or in Cannes, before winning a prize at the European Film Awards in December. It has also been nominated for the Oscars, which will take place next month, in five different categories (best film, best foreign film, best actress and best script). The Commissioner added that there is no better way of demonstrating the added value provided by MEDIA, which continues to fund European films through the new “Creative Europe” programme.
