Brussels, 16/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 15 January, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Industry Antonio Tajani and Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali launched the work of the EU-Tunisia Economic Consultative Council. The objective of this council is to bring considerable support to Tunisia's economic recovery by encouraging the democratic revolution - the second anniversary of the start of this was celebrated in Tunis the same day.
This new joint structure “aims to formulate proposals - enabling the business climate in Tunisia to be improved, to explore new opportunities for European businesses in the country and to strengthen economic ties, industrial cooperation and the role of SMEs”, said Jebali.
In a press release the day before the session, which was distributed by the EU delegation in Tunis, the Commission states that the consultative council will have the task“of identifying and realising business opportunities between the EU and Tunisia, with the signature of several trade agreements and partnership between European and Tunisian companies” (our translation throughout).
