EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) trade

16/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - Anti-dumping, Copa-Cogeca calls for immediate measures against Chinese canned mandarins. Speaking out against the failure of Chinese products to observe expensive obligations and European food safety standards, the agricultural organisations and cooperatives of the EU (Copa-Cogeca) are calling for the immediate introduction of anti-dumping measures with retroactive effect against exports of canned mandarin oranges from China. “The Commission is currently preparing a new EU regulation on anti-dumping measures to take into account the EU Court of Justice ruling which criticised the way in which the Commission calculates anti-dumping duties. But in the meantime, the influx of canned mandarin imports from China is having a devastating impact on EU producers”, Copa-Cogeca warns, in a press release dated 17 January. Production costs in China are just€ 6.30/kg compared to €11 or 12/kg in Europe, the organisation points out. (EH/transl.fl)
