Brussels, 10/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 17 October, during World Day to Overcome Extreme Poverty, the European Parliament “Extreme poverty and human rights and fourth world committee” is organising a conference on how to involve people living in poverty in the decision-making process. This meeting will take place on Wednesday 17 October (3.00pm to 6.00pm) at the European Parliament premises in Brussels and will be introduced by the president of the Parliament, Martin Schulz.
At this event, Professor Abhijit Banerjee, co-author (with Esther Duflo) of the book, “Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking to Fight Global Poverty” (Financial Times Goldman Sachs Business Book of the year 2011) and economics professor at the MIT, will open the session.
Two round tables will follow: one on “An insider's view of the Euro crisis and extreme poverty”. Participants will include Benoît Coeuré (member of the ECB Board of Governors), Diana Skelton (delegate general of ATD Fourth World) and MEPs, Sylvie Goulard (intergroup president), Jürgen Klute (intergroup vice president), Charles Goerens and Veronica Lope Fontagné. Conference conclusions will be followed at 6.00pm with a brief ceremony in front of the commemorative plaque to the victims of poverty (http://atd-quartmonde.org ).
