Brussels, 05/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU Internal Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström will be travelling to Greece on 8 and 9 October to meet a number of the country's leaders, including the minister of public order and citizen protection, Nikos Dendias, the European affairs minister, Dimitris Kourkoulas, and the prime minister, Antonis Samaras. During her visit, the Commissioner will go to the region of Evros, considered to be one of the main entry points for illegal immigrants coming to the EU, where she will visit detention centres for asylum-seekers. Greece was found guilty in January 2011 of improper treatment of asylum-seekers and is subject to an EU action plan to reform the management of asylum-seekers and immigrants. The Commission draws up regular reports on the situation. (SP/transl.fl)
