Automotive, clarifications on block exemption rules

Brussels, 27/08/2012 (Agence Europe) - In response to requests for practical advice from interested parties and the national competition authorities, the European Commission on Monday 27 August published a list of frequently-asked questions (FAQs) on the application of the block exemption rules in the automotive sector, which were adopted in May 2010, and the accompanying guidelines (see EUROPE 10147). These questions give interested parties indications on how the Commission applies these rules in six areas: 1) the honouring of warranties; 2) servicing in the framework of leasing contracts; 3) the provision of spare parts; 4) the use and purchase of electronic diagnosis and repair tools; 5) access to technical information; and 6) access to networks of accredited repairers. Particular attention is paid to the automotive after-sales markets, which tend to be less competitive than the markets for the sale of new vehicles. The FAQs can be consulted at the following address: http://ec.europa.eu/competition/sectors/motor_vehicles/legislation/legislation.html . (OL/trans.fl)
