Suspected price-fixing for North Sea shrimps

Brussels, 13/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 13 July 2012, the European Commission announced that it has sent a letter outlining competition concerns to four North Sea shrimp suppliers suspected of price-fixing and dividing up the market and clients in at least four member states (Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Germany) in violation of EU anti-trust rules. The names of the companies in question have not been revealed in order not to damage their rights, but may well involve companies at which the Commission carried out spot checks in March 2009 (see EUROPE 9875). If the suspicions prove to be justified, they may result in fines of up to 10% of annual turnover, but the statement of concerns does not prejudge the outcome of the investigation. (FG/transl.fl)
