EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) libya

30/03/2012 (Agence Europe) - Catherine Ashton calls for calm to be restored. On Thursday 29 March, the EU high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Catherine Ashton, expressed her concern about reports of fighting in Sebha, in the south-west of Libya, which has reportedly led to numerous casualties over the past few days. Ashton calls for calm to be restored as soon as possible and urges all those involved in the conflict to show restraint. She also urges the government to redouble its efforts to make the parties lay down their weapons and to ensure that the wounded can be attended to. Between Monday and Wednesday, over 80 people were killed and a further 150 wounded in inter-tribal fighting. (CG/transl.jl)
