16/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - EIB loan for modernising regional airports. On Tuesday 14 February, the European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to provide €50 million in long-term funding over 20 years to the Tanzania Airport Authority (TAA) for the modernisation of five regional airports in Tanzania. According to the EIB, this project is expected to help promote investment and job creation in the region and subsequently increase revenues and trade with neighbouring countries, as well as help develop tourism and create social and economic interaction in the airports. The EIB also said that it wanted the project to have positive benefits on air transport safety, given that the five airports in question had to comply with international security and safety standards.
