16/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Use opportunities in association agreement. On Wednesday 15 February, EU Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Füle and the chair of the EP's parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, Elmar Brok, called on the Ukrainian authorities to “ensure that the opportunities created by the EU-Ukraine association agreement are fully utilised” and he highlighted the “serious doubts” regarding the determination of the authorities “to respect the commitments contained in the agreement, particularly in the area of the primacy of law and political pluralism”. Füle and Brok pointed out that the implementation of this ambitious association agreement represented a decisive step in Ukraine's progress towards modernisation and prosperity, and a further deepening in its relations with the EU. The EU is concerned about the selective use of justice and would like the country to make a number of efforts before progressing with the association agreement. (CG/transl.fl)
