Brussels, 25/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - European leaders are planning to indirectly back the French government's controversial VAT plan at the upcoming summit by calling for a “transfer” of the cost of labour to other taxes, according to a draft version of the summit's conclusions leaked to AFP on Wednesday 25 January, which calls for measures to be taken in the member states to boost job creation, particularly for young people. The document says that member states should explore all options for transferring taxes on labour to other taxes - which is exactly what French President Nicolas Sarkozy is due to announce in VAT reforms to be unveiled on Sunday evening, 29 January.
