Aviation - industry disappointed by airline slot impact study

Brussels, 25/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - The European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) and the European Regions Airline Association (ERA) have questioned the impact study which the Commission used to formulate its proposals on revising airline slot allocations, as part of its airport package. On the basis of an authoritative independent study carried out by Mott MacDonald, the two associations refute the Commission analyses, which they describes as incomplete and inaccurate, and warn that the Commission's analyses could lead to serious problems involving jobs and air service connectivity. Both the EBAA and ERA deeply regret that the impact study acknowledged that regional airline services would be negatively affected by the new proposal but that it failed to assess the impact on regional airports and economies in the EU's peripheral areas. The study considers the job losses in these regions will be more than the new jobs created in the major European airports. (MD/transl.fl)
