Brussels, 25/01/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 24 January, two Danish ministers and MEPs from the European Parliament's transport and tourism committee provided an illustration of the transport roadmap. The roadmap does not contain any surprises but it does remain ambitious for the next six months. Henrik Dam Kristensen, the minister in charge of transport, said that they needed to conclude a compromise agreement between the Council and the European Parliament on recasting the railway package. He also intends to defend the European added value in cross-border infrastructure projects throughout negotiations on the revision of the Trans-European Network Transport (TEN-T) and in this connection is hoping to present a progress report on the Interconnection Mechanism in Europe. The Presidency will focus on noise reduction as part of the airports package but also wants to amend rules on plane pilots' rest times. The minister did not hide the fact that he also wanted to tackle the question of a possible agreement on the exclusive cross-border use for super trucks and the environmental benefits his country believes they have. The minister for enterprise and growth, Ole Sohn, thrashed out the maritime transport priorities, especially the adoption of dossiers already on the table: revising regulations relating to the European Maritime Safety Agency, dual hull ships, and the International STCW Convention on seafarers' training. The Presidency also wants to draw lessons from the sinking of the Costa Concordia cruise ship. (MD/transl.fl)
