Brussels, 25/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The economic and sovereign debt crisis, Iran, the Middle East peace process, Afghanistan and the EU's Eastern Partnership: these are the issues on the agenda of the EU-United States summit in Washington on Monday 28 November. The EU will be represented by European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton and Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht. The US side will be represented, inter alia, by President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Discussion will focus on the American and European responses to the crisis and on ways to support economic growth and job creation. Other issues that will be broached are climate change, energy, and development cooperation. A US-EU Energy Council will be held on Monday, with the Transatlantic Economic Council and the EU-US Development Dialogue scheduled for Tuesday 29 November (LC/transl.rt)
