Making e-Government accessible to all europeans

Poznan, 21/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The development of e-government in Europe and its challenges in the coming years were central to the Polish conference on “Cross-border online administrative services for Europeans”, which was held on 17-18 November in Poznan (Poland). Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission with responsibility for the digital strategy, and Maros Sefcovic, Vice-President of the European Commission with responsibility for institutional relations and administration, argued in favour of the need to develop and facilitate cross-border e-government services for the citizens and for business, whatever the country of origin and place of residence.

The international recognition of electronic identity cards and the interoperability of online administrative services featured strongly in the interventions. One of the main themes was also continuing and developing on a large scale EU pilot projects in the field of e-administration, according to the Polish Presidency.

Another form of development in digital administration: e-justice, with Poland conducting legal procedures in electronic format. At the conference, a letter of intention was signed between Poland and Germany for an exchange of experience on the implementation of electronic identification documents. (V.W./transl.fl)
