Audiovisual and cultural dialogue

Brussels, 09/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - A regional conference of the Euromed Audiovisual III programme will be held in Tunis on 14-15 November, to implement a market data-collection initiative focusing on the markets of nine countries of the Mediterranean (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Tunisia). This conference, the first of its kind, aims to make this initiative, which was born in the framework of cooperation between the Euromed Audiovisual III programme, the European Audiovisual Observatory and a consortium headed up by GIZ GmbH and consisting of the EBU, the ASBU, COPEAM, ZDF, Deutsche Welle and Imed, a reality.

The Euromed Audiovisual III programme was designed and financed by the EU to encourage its Mediterranean partners to include the cultural sector in their development strategies. The EU takes the view that the creative industries can contribute to economic growth and “against the current backdrop of cultural change and technological revolution, the film sector can be seen as an instrument of dialogue and communication and national borders”.
