Brussels, 09/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission announced on Wednesday 9 November that the names of five agricultural and food products had been added to the list of protected designations of origin (PDO) and protected geographical indications (PGI). These are: Italian pork butcher meat “Coppa de Parma” (PGI), Italian artichoke “Carciofo Brindisino” (PGI), Italian turnip “Brovada” (PDO) Scottish wool “Native Shetland Wool” (PDO) and Northern Irish eel “Lough Neagh Eel” (PGI). The five names have been added to the list of some 1,000 products already protected under legislation on the protection of geographical indications, designations of origin and traditional specialities guaranteed (http://www.ec.europa.eu/agriculture/quality/schemes/index_fr.htm ).
