Enhanced cooperation between EU and Brazil

Brussels, 09/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - Digital strategy is a new way to close the gap between the EU and Brazil by launching a coordinated call for research and development proposals, with a budget of €10 million, that should benefit not only European but also Brazilian businesses and researchers, the European Commission announced on Tuesday 8 November. This announcement came after the annual meeting on information and communications technology (ICT) that unfolded in Brasilia, and which made it possible to compare the different digital strategy expectations. The call for proposals mainly aims at technology that should benefit from smart solutions, i.e. software and data transmission in sectors such as environment modelling, bio diversity and life sciences.

Furthermore, the European Commission and the Brazilian authorities agreed to share experience and knowledge concerning the different regulations that concern such areas. “The EU and Brazil share many cultural and social roots and values, which are reflected in the way we have been addressing the socio-economic potential and the challenges of ICT”, said Commissioner Neelie Kroes, responsible for the Digital Agenda.
