29/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - De Gucht slams China's strong yuan policy. Famous for his plain speaking, EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht made it crystal clear in an interview with German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung on 28 September, less than a month ahead of the annual EU-China summit in Tianjin, that the Chinese monetary policy was having a destabilising impact on the rest of the world economy. “China keeps its currency artificially low and that's bad”, De Gucht told the newspaper. “China destabilises the global economy. At the same time, we export two-thirds of the products we imported before. Chinese imports at low prices are therefore also indirectly helping our export industry.” (EH/transl.fl)
