Brussels, 07/09/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 6 September, the Comité européen des entreprises vins (European Committee of Wine Companies, CEEV) welcomed the Commission's recent proposal on aromatised wine products. The wine companies note that the proposal creates a clear regulatory framework, making it possible both to respect the specific nature of traditional products in this sector and allow scope for innovation, whilst clarifying the presentation of wine-based aromatised drinks, a CEEV press release states.
The wine-based aromatised drinks sector is an outlet for more than two million hectolitres of wine in the EU each year. The Commission takes into account and reaffirms the traditional nature - in terms both of production and presentation - of some products (vermouth, etc) which are well-known to consumers, the CEEV continues. This proposal also allows the technological innovations of the last 20 years to find their place. (L.C./transl.fl)
