Brussels, 30/08/2011 (Agence Europe) - Eurogroup President Jean-Claude Juncker is against the guarantee mechanism that Finland is calling for in exchange for its participation in the second Greek bailout. “I don't like this mechanism, and I don't like the bilateral arrangements”, he said at the European Parliament on Monday 29 August. However, he said, “we're close to a solution” to this issue. There has been talk in the press of collateral deposited in a blocked bank account or assets for privatisation to be entrusted to a Luxembourg-based holding company. Juncker also urged that the decisions taken at the end of July (strengthening of the European rescue fund, finalisation of the second Greek bailout) be made reality. European Commission President José Manuel Durão Barroso called on Tuesday 30 August for the eurozone summit decisions to be ratified swiftly. (M.B./transl.rt)
