15/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Portugal's main parties have reached agreement on a programme for a new government, according to news agency reports on Wednesday 15 June. They have not decided on the makeup of the cabinet, which will be left to the prime-minister designate, Pedro Passos Coehlo. The agreement comes just a week before EU leaders meet in Brussels on 23-24 June. The Social Democratic Party won Portugal's elections on 5 June, but the coalition they are set to lead will still have to implement the deeply unpopular terms for an EU and IMF economic bailout, which contributed to bringing down the last government.
