15/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Scaroni (ENI) supports “European authority”. ENI Chief Executive Paolo Scaroni is in favour of a “European authority” to handle trading in gas within the EU, deal with emergencies in some countries and reduce the dangers associated with dependence on Russian gas. Scaroni was speaking at a hearing in the European Parliament. He stated, too, that Italy, in rejecting nuclear power in the referendum, had decided to go fully over to gas. He forecast an increase in gas demand across the globe and argued that there was no competition between the Nabucco and Southstream gas pipeline projects. He opined that Italy was handling the critical situation of energy supplies from Libya and North Africa rather well. (Gp/transl.rt)
