Brussels, 20/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Kosovo has European prospects and the European Commission is willing to help the young country to move along the “road to Europe” but Kosovo should also help itself if it really wants to join the EU one day, José Manuel Barroso said, speaking in Pristina on 20 May. “Kosovo can - and must - also help itself in order to make progress towards its goal of EU membership. Kosovo must press forward with its reforms, with determination, political responsibility and a spirit of compromise”, the Commission president said after his discussion with Kosovar Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi. Pristina must above all do more to enhance rule of law and public administration, set economic reforms in place and continue, in a constructive manner, in its dialogue with Serbia, Barroso stressed.
