Brussels, 19/05/2011 (Agence Europe) - Contrary to what was stated on Wednesday 18 May, the Commission did, in fact, receive the reply from Italy on Tuesday 17 May to its letter of 29 April calling for explanations on the decree by the Italian authorities which granted provisional residence permits and travel documents to Tunisian migrants who had arrived in Italy. This reply is currently being examined, the Commission says, in the same way as the French reply, which sets out it greater detail the arrangements for the police checks carried out on the border with Italy. Following these examinations, the Commission will decide whether to seek further “clarifications” or accept the information provided by the two countries. The same goes for Denmark, which was also asked by the Commission to give information on its plan, announced on 12 May, to re-establish customs controls in the near future at its border with Germany and Sweden.
