Brussels, 28/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Council of Europe's European Audiovisual Observatory has published a report on aid for audiovisual production in South East Europe. After providing a useful overview of the EU film funding landscape in legal terms, the report presents the European Commission's MEDIA and MEDIA Mundus programmes, the latter promoting cooperation and projects between the EU and third countries. The report then looks at the Council of Europe Eurimages programme. The report concludes that there is convergence between pan-European funding systems and national funding systems for audiovisual production on the ineligibility of certain types of film, with content that promotes violence or threatens public security being virtually unanimously excluded from funding possibilities. The authors reveal also that, not surprisingly, national aid schemes tend to support national films, whereas pan-European film funds focus on co-productions and cross-border collaboration.
