21/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Cooperation to tackle corruption, violence, pollution and under-development of the Niger Delta. That was the commitment made on 20 April at the public hearing at the European Parliament (EP) organised by Eva Joly (Greens/EFA, France), chairwoman of the development committee, and Dennis de Jong (GUE/NGL, Netherlands). De Jong called on the EP to send a fact-finding team to this oil-rich region. Shell, Total and ENI decided at the last minute not to attend. However, the Nigerian government, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, environmental and human rights organisations, the Commission and the World Bank were represented at the meeting.
