Dialogue continues under auspices of EU

Brussels, 18/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Issues around freedom of movement were at the centre of the third meeting of the direct dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo which was held “with the facilitation of the EU” in Brussels, on 15 April. With Robert Cooper of the European External Action Service (EEAS) in the chair, Borko Stefanovic, a high-ranking official in the Serbian Foreign Ministry, and Edita Tahiri, Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo, discussed issues as practical as identity cards, passports, car insurance, driving licences and licence plates. Recognition of university qualifications between Serbia and Kosovo was another issue that was broached. The aim of the dialogue, which was set up by UN General Assembly Resolution 64/298, is to improve the daily lives of the people of the region, improve cooperation in the Balkans and to bring the countries into closer alignment with the EU. It is not, therefore, intended to settle the dispute over the status of Kosovo. The next meeting is scheduled to take place in Brussels in mid-May. (H.B./transl.rt)
