Brussels, 18/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Some 47 million Europeans already live in extreme poverty, explains Marie-Cecile Renoux from International Movement ATD Fourth World, adding: “We're seeing the impact of the recession in an alarming increase in exclusion and homelessness across Europe. These people really feel they don't have a voice.” This is how Renoux described the work of the meeting in Vienna on 15 April of representatives of EU human rights activist groups. The Fourth Platform of Fundamental Rights examined activity to combat extreme poverty and social exclusion. John Monks (Secretary General of the European Trade Union Confederation), Jane Backhurst (Law Centres Federation), Michael Privot (European Network Against Racism), Antoine Madelin (Fédération Internationale des Droits de l'Homme) and representatives of other associations in Europe will be combining forces to take action in solidarity with the millions of people without a voice in Europe who are not treated decently and who have no access to justice.
