The Committee of the Regions held a conference in Brussels on Tuesday 5 April on a two-year project to support migrants' entrepreneurship - the SME Project - managed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development. The project focuses on diaspora entrepreneurship as a factor contributing to job creation and socio-economic development in countries both of origin and destination. The SME Project has built a “transnational and multi-stakeholder partnership among Italy, Romania and Moldova” that aims at harnessing remittances and migrants' savings for entrepreneurial rural-area investment that can be conducive to more sustainable development and, thus, long-term eradication of poverty, says a CoR press release.
