Denmark's online registry to be re-opened on 4 April

Brussels, 01/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 4 April at 8.00am, the online national emissions registry of Denmark (established by the ETS Directive) will resume normal operations. This was announced on Friday 1st April by the European Commission in light of the substantiating examination of the independent security report Denmark had submitted to it relating to its national registry.

Once effective, the Commission's favourable decision will increase to 24 the number of registries that have resumed normal operations since the suspension of transactions from 19 January 2011 at 7.00pm, this provisional measure being motivated by pirate cyber-attacks on some such registries.

The Commission comes to the conclusion that Denmark had provided “reasonable assurances” that the minimum security requirements have now been set in place since the incident that was detrimental to the integrity of the system and to the reputation of the European carbon market.

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Slovakia, Romania, the United Kingdom, Sweden and Norway (a third country taking part in the ETS) had earlier received the Commission's go-ahead for resuming all online operations under the EU emissions quota trading system.
