Brussels, 01/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is considering a possible new internal security body, along similar lines to the European External Action Service (EEAS), Commission Counter-Terrorism Director Olivier Luyckx told the European Parliament on 30 March, the EUobserver reports. According to Luyckx, all the existing agencies, Europol, Eurojust, Cepol and Frontex, would be brought together under the control of European Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Gilles de Kerchove. “There is room for fresh initiatives at European level,” Luyckx said and, just as for the follow-up to external crises with the EEAS, a one-stop shop would be set up for the exchange of information on internal security. Luyckx said that this new body would not necessarily be an EU intelligence service conducting its own activities but would bring an “added value” to the work of member states. (L.C./transl.rt)
