09/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - Berlin cautious about no-fly zone over Libya. Germany showed caution on Wednesday 9 March about the setting in place of a no-fly zone over Libya. “The no-fly zone is, we feel, an option that must be discussed but we must also remain cautious and responsible”, said Andreas Peschke, the spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, reported by AFP. “We have clearly said that (…) such a solution could be adopted but only under international law if there is a UN Security Council mandate for that”, he added. One must also ensure such action has the support of partners in the region, and especially the Arab League, Peschke underlined. Germany called on the EU to impose further targeted sanctions against the regime of the Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, during the meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels on Thursday.
