09/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - EU examining possibility of adopting restrictive measures against certain Bosnian politicians. On Tuesday 8 March, EU experts were put in charge of starting work to enable the EU27 to approve restrictive measures (freezing assets and visa bans) against certain Bosnian politicians who are hindering the peace process. The decision is part of a package of measures, prepared at the request of Catherine Ashton, to reconfigure Europe's presence in Bosnia-Herzegovina (EUROPE 10319). Ministers are expected to examine this “strategy” package at the next Foreign Affairs Council on 21 March. In addition to these restrictive measures, this package also calls for a single EU representative to be appointed in Bosnia-Herzegovina and subordinates ratification of stabilisation and association agreements (SAA) concluded with Bosnia to conditions requiring amendment of certain Bosnian constitutional provisions.
