Increasing students' involvement in political life

Brussels, 23/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - “Higher education is a public good and should therefore remain a public responsibility.” That is the main message of the Budapest Declaration, adopted on 18 February at the 21st European Students' Convention (ESC). The ESC also highlighted the importance of involving students more closely at all levels of the decision-making process of national and European institutions, as stated in the Bologna Declaration adopted 10 years ago. With Hungary holding the Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers, the European Students' Union (ESU) said, too, that it backed the efforts of the Hungarian students' union (HÖOK) which is striving to have amended the law aimed at reducing the percentage of students on decision-making bodies of Hungarian universities.
