Decisions on senior management staff

Brussels, 23/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - On a proposal from Commission President José Manuel Barroso and Vice-President Maros Šefèoviè, the Commission took further decisions on its senior management staff on Wednesday 23 February. These decisions concern the appointment of a Deputy Director-General in the Directorate General for Regional Policy (DG REGIO), the appointment of a Director in the Directorate General Environment (DG ENV) and the transfer of an official to a post of Director in the Directorate General Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN).

Nicholas Martyn, a British official who is currently Director of the DG REGIO Directorate in charge of Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Slovenia, was appointed to a post of Deputy Director-General in that DG. He will be responsible for the development, coordination and communication of Cohesion Policy.

The second appointment decision concerns Mr Robin Miège, a French official currently Head of Unit in DG ENV, who will become Director of the “Strategy” Directorate of that DG.

The Commission also decided to transfer Anne Bucher, who is at present Director of the Resources Directorate in Directorate General Information Society and Media (DG INFSO), to the post of Director in charge of structural reforms and competitiveness in DG ECFIN. As is the case with all such senior appointments, merit is the dominant criterion in these decisions. The Commission also strives to ensure an adequate balance of nationalities across its DGs and Services. (L.C./transl.rt)
