Brussels, 22/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission has appointed a, SME Czar: an official who will act as the “European ambassador” for small and medium-sized enterprises. Daniel Calleja Crespo, Assistant Director General at DG Industry and Enterprise, whose appointment was approved by the college of commissioners last week, will be responsible for ensuring the correct and full implementation of the Small Business Act (SBA) in all 27 EU member states. Calleja Crespo will be officially confirmed in his new post by Commission Vice-President with responsibility for Industry Antonio Tajani at a press conference devoted to the SBA, a veritable armoury of measures to help SMEs, in the Berlaymont on Wednesday 23 February. In addition to the creation of the post of SME Czar, the review of the SBA provides for a number of other initiatives, for example on internationalisation, cutting red tape and access to credit for SMEs.
