22/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Paying agencies. On Monday 21 February, EU agriculture ministers debated the role of paying agencies, and the proposals they have made for simplifying implementation of some CAP (common agricultural policy) instruments, including direct payments, and proposals to simplify checks. “The Commission will look at the question of simplifying and reducing the administrative burden, including with regard to checks”, said Agriculture Commissioner Dacian Cioloº, “on condition that there is greater accountability in these agencies and national administrations in the way European rules are applied so that proper use of Community funding can be assured.” (L.C./transl.rt)
