22/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - New TSGs for Czech and Slovak meat products. On Monday 21 February, the European Commission added four meat products to the list of “traditional specialities guaranteed” (TSG). These products will now enjoy TSG protection in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The products are: “Lovecký salám”, “Liptovský salám”, “Špekáèky” and “Spišské párky” for the Czech Republic and “Lovecká saláme”, “Lipovská saláma”, “Špekaèky” and “Spišské párky” for Slovakia. TSGs are, together with protected geographical indications (PGI) and protected designations of origin (PDO), the cornerstones of the EU agricultural quality policy. Unlike PGIs and PDOs, “traditional specialities guaranteed” do not refer to the origin of the product but highlight the traditional character, either in the composition or means of production.
