Brussels, 07/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) has joined forces with Arab and Israeli civil society organisations in coming to the defence of the Palestinian citizens of Israel. A report (available on the network's website), the first devoted to the lot of the Israeli Arabs, suggests that this minority, which makes up some 20% of the population, should be one of the components of the much sought-after peace. Their situation requires much greater attention from the EU, for example, with regard to new Israeli laws which are tending to discriminate against the Arabs. The EU is called on to be more proactive in protecting the basic rights of this minority and to raise the matter at the next meeting of the EU-Israel Association Council on 21 February.
