07/02/2011 (Agence Europe) - Search engine Google would like to avoid a long legal battle with the Commission, the Sunday Telegraph reported on 6 February, quoting Eric Schmidt, Google CEO. The Commission opened an investigation procedure into abuse of its dominant position by the company on 30 November of last year, following complaints from competitors (see EUROPE 10267). The investigation will seek to discover whether Google infringed Community law by discriminating against competitors' services in the pay and free search results on its web pages to the benefit of its own services, and by imposing restrictive or exclusive clauses with regard to online advertising. The boss of Google confirmed that the company would ensure that it complied with both the letter and the spirit of the law. (F.G./transl.rt)
