Brussels, 17/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - In a video-conversation with the U.S. Ambassador to the EU, William E. Kennard, European Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou highlighted the importance of EU-US education mobility programmes which enable young people from the European Union to study in the United States and vice-versa. The commissioner underlined the impact of such grant schemes in strengthening the transatlantic relationship. She spoke of the importance of Schuman Fulbright joint grants for mobility of young Europeans and Americans. This grant, a key part of the EU-US higher education cooperation programme, allows students, graduates and European lecturers to go to the United States and Americans to come and study or deliver classes in a European country. Some 6,000 students and academics from the EU and US are expected to benefit from grants for exchanges in 2006-2013. (I.L./transl.rt)
