Brussels, 17/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - On the initiative of the education, culture, multilingualism and youth commissioner, the Commission is due to adopt its communication on sport on Tuesday 17 January. This communication, The Lisbon Treaty and Sport - Developing the European Dimension in Sport, will set out new ideas for implementing the Lisbon Treaty in the field of sport and contributing to achieving the EUROPE 2020 objectives. The communication will focus on initiatives in sport and European sport-related projects where the EU has a clear added value. The proposed initiatives relate to role of sport in society, its economic dimension, the organisation of sport, doping, violence and intolerance. It also covers social inclusion, education and training in sport, mental and physical health-enhancing sports activity. Sustainable financing of sport, EU state aid rules and sport, sport and regional development, good governance in sport, the specific nature of sport, free movement and nationality in sport, transfer rules, integrity of sporting competitions, and social dialogue also feature.
