11/01/2011 (Agence Europe) - Informal meeting Malmström/al-Obidi postponed. The meeting between European Home Affairs Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and Libya's Secretary of State for European Affairs Abdulatti al-Obidi, which was to be held on Monday 10 January, was postponed at the last moment as the Libyan minister was unable to attend. In principle, the meeting should be held on Thursday 27 January (see EUROPE 10290). In a press release of Tuesday 11 January, the S&D Group at the European Parliament considers the EU should not sign the framework agreement with Libya, currently under negotiation on a large number of topics, without first of all making sure that Tripoli takes concrete measures to improve respect of human rights, especially with regard to asylum seekers and migrants. The Parliament will take a stance on the framework agreement in plenary during January, on the basis of the report by Ana Gomes (S&D, Portugal). (Cor-Gp/transl.jl)
