Brussels, 17/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The Hungarian Presidency of the EU that takes office for six months on 1 January 2011 “will not start the debate on the budget” for 2013-2010, explained the Hungarian prime minister, Viktor Orban, on Friday 17 December, commenting on a British letter on capping the EU budget (see related article). Orban said that the Commission's timeline was very clear and it is due to unveil proposals in June 2011. Orban said that the letter from the three big economies was not legally binding. During Hungary's Presidency, its greatest task would be to ensure that the permanent stability mechanism decided upon on Thursday comes into force as soon as possible. In this connection, the six items of legislation accompanying the decision will be finalised by June 2011 and the Treaty changed before the spring, added Orban. (A.By./transl.fl)
