Brussels, 16/12/2010 (Agence Europe) - The European Parliament is not opposed to a change in the Treaty in order to create a permanent eurozone crisis management mechanism, the president of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, said on Thursday evening during the European Council meeting. “We have not yet fully discussed this issue in the European Parliament but, if a treaty change were to facilitate that task, I think that the European Parliament could be prepared to support the use of the simplified revision procedure of the Treaty”, he confirmed, nonetheless pointing out that this “exceptional” change should above all focus on the creation of a “permanent European stability mechanism”. “The Parliament would not be willing to accept any change going beyond that”, Buzek said. Once the change made, it will be important to adopt the legislation to create the European stability mechanism in good time for it to enter into force in 2013, he said. The president of the assembly nonetheless considered it necessary to hold more in-depth discussion on the need for the EU to have Eurobonds, the question of increasing the subscribed capital of the ECB, the creation of a more systemic facility to buy up government debt, or on the establishment of a European Monetary Fund.
